THE GRAIN ARCHIVE: DARKTABLE STYLES

Film looks for darktable 5.6 or later, as darktable styles (.dtstyle files). Each style is a set of
darktable's own processing modules (tone curve, color adjustments, grain and, in black and white, a
channel mix): no LUTs. VERSION gives the version of this pack, CHANGELOG.txt what changed, and
LICENSE.txt the terms of use.

IMPORT THE STYLES

1. Unzip the pack. The styles are the .dtstyle files in the "styles" folder.
2. In darktable, open the lighttable view. The styles module sits in the right-hand panel.
3. Click "import..." and select all the .dtstyle files at once.
4. If a style with the same name already exists, darktable asks whether to overwrite it. Answer yes
when you update to a newer version of the pack.

darktable copies each style into its own database and does not read the .dtstyle file again.
Copying the files into darktable's configuration folder does not install them: use "import...".

WHERE THEY APPEAR

The styles module shows the styles as a tree. The group names are in French:

Pellicules > Couleur color negative films
Pellicules > Cinéma motion picture films
  Pellicules > Diapo slide films
  Pellicules > N&B black-and-white films
  Pellicules > Instantané instant film
  Pellicules > Effets special-effect films
Film Couleur > Contrasté grain the generic look, not tied to one film

The search field above the list finds a style by name or description.

APPLY A STYLE

- Lighttable: select one or more images, then double-click a style in the styles module, or select
it and click "apply". Hover over a style name to preview it on the first selected image.
- Darkroom: click the styles button in the bottom panel, then click a style. Hover over a name to
preview it on the current image.
- Keep the mode on "append", the default: your exposure, tone mapper, white balance, crop and the
rest of your edit stay in place. "overwrite" deletes the image's history stack first.
- "create duplicate" applies the style to a duplicate of each image and leaves the original as it
was, which makes it easy to compare several styles.

The black-and-white styles (Pellicules > N&B) turn off your main color calibration instance on
purpose. The full guide explains why, and how to go back to color.

The styles are built and tested for darktable 5.6. When darktable cannot convert a module's
settings, it shows a "module version mismatch" message and skips that module.
